Two Cashton High School seniors have been selected as the 2012 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association's Scholar Athlete Award nominees for the school district. Dillon Flock and Sarah Gronemus have been chosen as Cashton's representatives for this prestigious state-wide award. Each year WIAA member schools nominate one boy and one girl for this award. From this large field of candidates 16 boys and 16 girls are chosen as winners and recognized in the spring at a banquet in Wausau. The criteria to judge the student athletes, both at the state and local level, include; GPA, varsity letters won, and Conference, Regional, Sectional, and State first place finishes as well as All-Conferences selections. Based on the criteria the senior class of 2012 had fourteen student-athletes qualify to be considered. "Congratulations to all our nominees. There represent what being a student-athlete is all about. This is a talented group and the competition to be Cashton's nominee was rigorous, " said Athletic Director Bill Freiberg. The other nominees were: Mariah Campton, Amber Dahl, MacKenzie Daines, Brandon Geier, Whitney Hanson, Allison Hemmersbach, Chloe Kaiser, Amelia Korn, Kelli Schmitz, Hans Stennes-Spidahl, Brett Von Ruden, and Cody Von Ruden.
