One of our key goals this year is to implement consistent, fair, accurate, and efficient assessment and grading guidelines. Last year, our faculty studied the work of Doug Reeves, Rick Wormeli, Thomas Guskey, and others. As we analyzed our practice we found diverse philosophies and sporadic implementation. We all agreed a common set of guidelines for all to follow would improve our capacity to meet our goal. We thoroughly studied successful assessment policies from Grand Island, NE; Elko County, NV, Minnetonka, MN, and Whitefish Bay, WI. The 2011-12 school year will be a year of implementation, reflection, and adjustment. Cashton MS/HS Assessment Philosophy and Grading Guidelines reflect our collective commitment to progressive assessment techniques. I would be interested to hear from other school leaders that have been through the same process.
