Welcome Mrs. Butzler

This will be my final post on the Cashton Middle/High School blog.  As of July 1, I will be replacing Mr. Saron as the District Administrator for Cashton Public Schools.  I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to work in my new role. I am committed to working with staff, teachers, and community members to foster a nurturing and engaging learning environment that empowers all students to reach their fullest potential.

As many people already know, the Board of Education has selected a new MS/HS Principal.  Jennifer Butzler joins the Cashton MS/HS team after working for 17 years as a middle and high school physical education teacher in Sparta.  Mrs. Butzler held many teacher leadership positions in Sparta and was recognized in 2012 as Kohl Fellowship winner.  She brings a great deal of experience leading professional learning communities; promoting a safe and respectful environment; and designing consistent and efficient assessment systems.  She is a resident and alumni of Cashton Public Schools, and she is already familiar face to many because of her work with Cashton community and athletics organizations.  I am looking forward to working with Mrs. Butzler for many years to come.

One important project that will keep me quite busy in my first days as District Administrator will be the completion of the projects authorized by the passing of a facilities referendum this past April.  If you are interested in staying informed as to the progress of these projects,  I have created a Cashton Facilities Referendum Blog and Informational Website.  The goal of the blog and website will be to provide consistent project updates to all interested citizens.

Have a great summer!

Girls Basketball Team Recognized for Exemplary Sportsmanship

The Cashton Girls basketball team was recently recognized in the February WIAA bulletin for their exemplary sportsmanship during a game against Viroqua this year. The following report was submitted to the WIAA from game official Wayne Hannes.

Upon arriving at Cashton High School we were immediately greeted by Athletic Director Bill Freiberg and escorted to the officials room and received a warm hospitable welcome with cordial conversation. During the game, which was very close all the way to the end including overtime, both teams displayed positive interactions. The positive interactions included both teams retrieving loose balls and returning them to the officials and addressing us by sir. Viroqua's coach Layne Hannson and Cashton's coach Patte Michalek focused on their respective roles and all we heard were encouraging words towards their players. After the game, my partner and I discussed the good sportsmanship of both teams and how honored we are to be associated with high school sports. Both teams, fans, schools, and communities should be proud of themselves for representing the extension of the classroom in the manner that they do.
